A gift-giving event was held earlier in November as part of FAHASA’s initiative to distribute 1,500 gift sets to students in flood- and storm-affected areas.

In response to calls from social organizations and the publishing sector, the HCMC Book Distribution Joint Stock Company (FAHASA) launched three relief programs to support the people of Central Vietnam.

3,000 gift sets for students in flood-hit areas

One of the key activities was delivering 3,000 gift sets to students in regions severely impacted by storms and floods.

Each gift set, worth 600,000 VND, included backpacks, 10 notebooks, book covers, and a full set of school supplies (ballpoint pens, pencils, sharpeners, erasers, rulers, pencil cases, etc.).

The total value of the program reached 1.8 billion VND.

Earlier this month, FAHASA delivered 1,500 gift sets to students in Nghe An and Thua Thien Hue.

In the first week of December (from December 2 to 5), the remaining 1,500 gift sets will be distributed to students in Phú Yên and Khánh Hòa – provinces that suffered severe damage, with thousands of homes submerged and hundreds of schools damaged or forced to suspend operations.

1,500 relief boxes for 500 affected households

On November 29, FAHASA also distributed 1,500 relief boxes to 500 disadvantaged households in Khánh Hòa and Phú Yên, totaling 500 million VND.

Each household received three boxes containing clothing, food, and essential goods.

500 million VND in emergency aid for 100 affected employees

Additionally, the company launched an internal donation campaign, raising 500 million VND to provide urgent support to 100 employees in the bookstore system who suffered severe losses from flooding.

Depending on the level of damage, each employee received from 10 to 20 million VND.

A FAHASA representative shared: “Through these practical and meaningful relief efforts, we hope to help the people of Central Vietnam overcome the aftermath of natural disasters.”

Support also coming from authors and publishing figures

In addition to corporate contributions, many individuals in the publishing industry have also stepped forward to support flood-affected communities.

On November 26, during the book launch event for The Girl Next Door and Four Candies in Ho Chi Minh City, author Nguyễn Nhật Ánh announced a donation of 80 million VND from his royalties to support people in Central Vietnam.

Publishing House Tre, which distributes his work, also contributed 100 million VND to flood-relief activities.

A day earlier, writer-screenwriter Nguyễn Mạnh Tuấn pledged to donate all proceeds from the launch of his books Chua ngọt đời văn and Kẻ khôn hơn vua to people in disaster-hit areas.

Severe nationwide damage from natural disasters in 2025

As of November 24, according to the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention, natural disasters in 2025 have caused devastating losses:

  • Over 409 people are dead or missing
  • More than 333,000 houses were damaged or roofed off
  • Nearly 930,000 hectares of crops were destroyed
  • Tens of millions of livestock and aquatic animals were swept away
  • Landslides are damaging 744 km of roads, 100 km of riverbanks, and eroding over 14.5 million m³ of soil and rock
  • Estimated total loss: over 85,000 billion VND

In Central Vietnam and the Central Highlands alone, economic losses exceed 14,352 billion VND.

Provinces such as Đăk Lăk, Khanh Hoa, Gia Lai, Quang Ngai, and Lam Dong continue to face severe consequences, with many areas still isolated by deep flooding and prolonged disruptions to transportation and power systems.
