Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day (April 21) is an important event that honors the value of books and promotes reading culture within the community. Every year, many meaningful activities are organized nationwide, among which FAHASA is one of the pioneering organizations with large-scale book fairs that attract a wide number of readers.
What is Vietnam Book Day?
On February 24, 2014, the Government signed Decision No. 284/QĐ-TTg, designating April 21 each year as Vietnam Book Day. The selection of April 21 carries special significance, as it marks the publication date of Vietnam’s first book, “Đường Kách mệnh” (April 21, 1927) by President Ho Chi Minh. This was also the first Vietnamese-language work printed by Vietnamese printers. Associating Book Day with one of his notable works holds deep cultural meaning.
In 2021, Vietnam Book Day was officially renamed Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day under Decision No. 1862/QĐ-TTg dated November 4, 2021, issued by the Prime Minister. This day is organized to encourage reading habits within the community (i.e., fostering and spreading the habit of reading among people), while also raising public awareness of the important role reading plays in developing knowledge, skills, critical thinking, and self-improvement.
