FAHASA Celebrates Its 50th Anniversary, Reaffirming Its Mission of ‘Serving the Community – Spreading Knowledge’

On the morning of August 6, Ho Chi Minh City Book Distribution Corporation (FAHASA) held a ceremony to celebrate its 50th anniversary (August 6, 1976 – August 6, 2026) and receive the First-Class Labor Order. This significant milestone marks half a century of promoting knowledge and supporting the development of reading culture by one of Vietnam’s leading book distribution brands.

The ceremony was attended by former State President Truong Tan Sang; former Vice State President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh; Van Thi Bach Tuyet, Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; Nguyen Manh Cuong, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee; along with a large number of current and former FAHASA officials and employees from different generations, as well as the company’s partners.

From a State-Owned Enterprise to a Professional Bookstore Network

Established shortly after the reunification of Vietnam on August 6, 1976, FAHASA began with the mission of bringing books to the public amid challenging circumstances. During its first 30 years operating as a state-owned enterprise, the company maintained its key role in book distribution, laying a solid foundation for its subsequent growth and development.

A major turning point came in 2006, when FAHASA officially transitioned to a joint-stock company model. Over the 20 years of operating under this model (2006–2025), FAHASA recorded impressive growth. Its revenue reached VND 4.228 trillion in 2025, ten times the figure recorded in 2005; the number of bookstores increased tenfold; and its contributions to the state budget rose by more than 30 times. Today, FAHASA operates a professional network of 150 bookstores across 26 provinces and cities nationwide, alongside its e-commerce platform, Fahasa.com, and an integrated book distribution ecosystem that combines traditional retail with modern technology. These developments have established FAHASA as one of the largest book distribution networks in Southeast Asia.

Beyond expanding its business operations, FAHASA has also earned recognition as a cultural enterprise with a longstanding commitment to social responsibility. Throughout its development, the company has organized numerous book fairs, author–reader engagement programs, reading and learning promotion initiatives, and book donation programs for students and residents in remote and disadvantaged areas. These efforts have contributed to building a learning society and fostering a culture of reading within the community.

Speaking at the ceremony, Nguyen Manh Cuong, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, acknowledged, praised, and congratulated FAHASA on the outstanding achievements it has made over the past 50 years.

Vice Chairman Nguyen Manh Cuong emphasized: “FAHASA’s contributions are measured not only by its revenue, profits, or the scale of its network, but also by the social value it has created and its meaningful contributions to the development of culture and education, as well as to human development in Ho Chi Minh City and many other provinces and cities across the country.”

Against the backdrop of digital transformation and rapid advances in science and technology, Vice Chairman Nguyen Manh Cuong highly appreciated FAHASA’s strategic direction in investing in e-commerce, developing smart bookstores and smart warehouses, and applying technology to corporate management. The city expects FAHASA to continue strengthening its pioneering role by harmoniously combining the traditional values of books with the achievements of modern technology, thereby helping inspire a passion for reading, particularly among younger generations.

In particular, FAHASA is expected to remain steadfast in its mission of “Serving the Community – Spreading Knowledge,” while making positive contributions to Ho Chi Minh City’s goal of becoming a regional hub for culture, education, and innovation.
