August 6, 1976 – Establishment of the State-Owned Ho Chi Minh City Book Distribution Corporation (the predecessor of today’s Ho Chi Minh City Book Distribution Corporation – FAHASA.
Key Milestones
Innovation in the Digital Age – Pioneering Modern Book Retail
FAHASA has continued to pursue its strategy of building modern, experience-driven bookstores while expanding into e-commerce, digital book sales, and applying advanced technology in operations and customer service. The company also invested in a modern printing, stationery, and packaging facility, and broadened its international partnerships.
By the end of 2024, FAHASA had reached a revenue milestone of VND 4,003 billion and operated 130 bookstores across the country.
A Decade of Post-Equitization Breakthrough Growth – Establishing a Nationwide Brand
In 2006, FAHASA transitioned into a joint-stock company. With the development strategy of “Building a nationwide professional bookstore system,” FAHASA rapidly accelerated investments to create one of the country’s most extensive and professional book distribution networks, reaching the milestone of 100 bookstores.
Transition to a Market-Oriented Mechanism
FAHASA shifted towards commercialization and financial autonomy, gradually reasserting its market position. FAHASA bookstores were progressively upgraded and offered a wider variety of products.
Formation and Early Stage
In August 1976, the State-Owned Book Distribution Corporation was established under the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Information, later renamed the Ho Chi Minh City Book Distribution Corporation (FAHASA). Books were distributed according to planned quotas, mainly serving political and educational purposes.
